5 top tips for getting unstuck

#1. Self-reflect/ discover your purpose

When you feel stuck, discovering what you love to do can be life changing. This is the toughest part of any self-healing journey but often the most important. Self-reflection and self-discovery are key to getting yourself unstuck but this often takes time. And the quickest approach isn’t always the most effective. Often the key will be in the things that bring you joy so it’s important to get to know yourself.

It can be difficult to shut away the noise of everyday life in order to find our true calling, but it’s an absolute must if we are to progress. Particularly if we want to live in authenticity and in alignment with our purpose.

Never be afraid to set boundaries for your time and space.

Learn to shut yourself away from others for a while if that’s what it takes and learn to become comfortable in your own silence. Meditate, pray, be at one with your own thoughts. When you get to know yourself at a deeper level you begin to find your answers. When you shut out the noise of daily life and learn to discern what’s inside you, you find what truly inspires you. That will lead you to your purpose and a step closer to feeling unstuck.

The answer could be buried deep in your subconscious, hence the importance of doing your inner work. By connecting to your heart centre, by healing your core wounds you will be able to discern what your soul is communicating.

In your journey of self-improvement and healing it’s important that you prioritise and stay true to yourself. It takes courage to be authentic, particularly if those around you try to discourage you or reject you for living your truth. The reality is however, if someone is meant to be in your life they will support you and accept you for who you are.

#2. Educated yourself

Read as much as you can. Knowledge is power and often a solution when you feel stuck.

If you know what your purpose is but are confused as to where to start, begin to educate yourself where you can. It may seem daunting at first, but you must understand that achieving your purpose is a journey and not a race. The joy of life is not in the end result but what comes in between. You don’t get from A to Z in one step. The tough times make you stronger and the lessons make you wiser. If you fail at something it doesn’t mean you are starting from square one but instead from a place of experience and growth.

Be kind to yourself, move forward and learn accept the things you can’t change. Stop focusing on the past, limit fantasies about the future and allow yourself to be in the present moment.

The more you read and learn the more confident you will become. If you find reading difficult, listen to videos, podcasts or join motivational online communities. There are numerous free resources out there to help you get to where you want to go. Take advantage of them. It may seem pointless at first, but doing this will drive you to educate yourself more each day, whilst giving you more insight to things you are interested in.

Don’t be scared to ask for help if you don’t have the resources. None of us were born knowledgeable. Accept that sometimes we cannot achieve everything on our own. Learn to acknowledge your own vulnerabilities and know that it’s okay to receive.

#3. Stop procrastinating

That thing you’ve always wanted to do – Just do it.

If you feel yourself always delaying things, then you need to get to the root of the problem. Take time to self-reflect, connect with yourself, and find the underlying cause.

Seek help if you need to. Get to know what your mental blocks are and work on them. Often, when we feel stuck, the thought of doing something can seem greater than the actual task itself.

Take at least one step each day towards change. An action, no matter how small, will lead you in the right direction and one step closer to your goal. Sometimes all it takes is that small step forward to stop making you feel stuck.

Start with the things within your control. Changing the small things will encourage you and give you confidence to deal with the greater things in your life. We are creatures of habit so repeat this with consistency day in and day out. You’ll find that once you do this, your life can change dramatically in just a short amount of time.

Visualise where you want to be, imagine how different your life will look in one year’s time by simply taking one small action everyday. Doing one thing, no matter how small, compared to remaining static with your life will get you closer to where you want to be.

Doing something is better than doing nothing and your fear of doing nothing should be greater than your fear of change.

#4. Change your attitude

Attitude is everything. Be aware of your own thoughts and how you present yourself in the world. Often your own thought patterns can be the thing holding you back and making you feel stuck.

Try to slowly change negative thinking into positive thinking. Use positive affirmations, make yourself laugh, rejoice in the small things. Be grateful for your blessings no matter how small.

Own your stuff and stop blaming others for where you are right now. We don’t all get the same advantages in life, so learn to acknowledge the part you play in your own story and how that affects you. It is easy to blame situations, our circumstances, or others for the hand we have been dealt, but we must also acknowledge the persona we play in our own life.

It is important to look at how we can heal ourselves.

Are you a people pleaser? Negative self- talker? Do you let yourself be influenced by what others think of you? Are you constantly living in the past?

If this is the case then it’s important that you self-reflect, connect to your inner child and work on any self-limiting beliefs you still have inside you. If you struggle dealing with your emotional blocks, it’s okay to seek help. A lot of the time issues arise due to unhealed traumas, but the first step is to be aware of this within yourself.

Accept yourself for who you are, forgive yourself and others.

Have the courage to change your own attitude and how you perceive the world.

You can’t change your life by being the person you have always been. So, who do you tell yourself to be?

#5. Eliminate negative influences

Surround yourself with positive people, friends that encourage and motivate you. Nurture loving relationships and seek those who believe in you.

You are what you think about, and the average of the five closest people you have to you, so have courage to change your environment if it doesn’t resonate with you.

You can never raise your frequency and move forward when you’re surrounded by naysayers. They will get you down and make use of you only when they need you.

Pessimism will only make you feel bad about yourself and discourage you from your dream. Making you feel more demotivated and stuck.

It’s important to observe the quality of people around you. If they don’t have a positive effect, if they don’t allow you to grow, then don’t allow them to influence you.

Look at their results. Are they following the path you want for yourself? Are they successful in your area of interest? If not, then learn to take their advice and criticism with a pinch of salt. People oftentimes feel stuck in their own journey, tied down by commitments and too busy adhering to social norms. They may be learning their own life lessons.

If someone can’t understand your dream, then try not to blame or hold it against them. Acknowledge that not everyone thinks the same and only you know what’s inside you.

Some of the greatest minds in history were outcasts, deemed crazy, until they were recognised as genius.

You must trust your own intuition and follow your own path.

Cut out negative media or anything that no longer has any validity in your life. Replace it with things that drive you and make you feel inspired daily.

Listen to motivational speakers, join free training groups, webinars, etc. You’ll be amazed what you can learn and at the connections you can make along the way.
